How this directory works

Best Plumbers in Seattle is an independent directory of licensed plumbing contractors serving Seattle and the surrounding Puget Sound region. The premise is simple: hiring a plumber starts with a license check most people never do, so we do it for every company, continuously, and publish what we find.

How we verify L&I licenses

Washington State requires plumbing contractors to hold an active registration with the Department of Labor & Industries. Every company in this directory is matched to its L&I record, and we display the license number, type, expiration date, and UBI on each profile so you can confirm it yourself at lni.wa.gov.

Verification is not a one-time check. An automated job re-queries the state's public contractor database daily and updates every profile. When a license flips to expired, suspended, or out of business, the profile immediately shows a prominent warning banner, drops out of every recommendation list, and is flagged to search engines as not recommendable. We also treat an "active" status with a past expiration date as expired, since the state's status code can lag.

Where the ratings come from

Ratings and review counts shown on profiles come from the platforms that collected them: Google Business Profile, Yelp, and the BBB, labeled as such and shown as reported. Review summaries on profiles are synthesized from real customer reviews, including the negative ones.

We never fabricate ratings. In particular, we do not feed third-party ratings into structured data to game rich results: a star rating only enters our markup if it comes from reviews collected on this site, which keeps our pages honest with both visitors and search engines.

How rankings work

Recommendation order weighs each company's Google rating against its review volume, so a 4.9-star company with hundreds of reviews ranks above a 5.0 with a handful. Featured slots rotate through qualified companies rather than always showing the same leaders. Placement in the rankings is not for sale, and no company can pay to suppress its license status or reviews.

How companies get listed or removed

The directory is built from the state's contractor registrations for plumbing businesses serving the Seattle metro, enriched with each company's public business information. Companies do not pay to be listed. Profiles are removed or hidden when a license lapses without renewal, the business closes, or the company requests removal.
