About Bob Oates Sewer & Rooter

Bob Oates moved from New York to Ballard in the Spring of 1991. He started a family and quickly built a successful business. The company soon became the name to trust in the sewer and drain cleaning/repair industry, eventually Greater Seattle and all surrounding cities and communities. Today with his family firmly at the helm of the company — daughter Raya, son-in-law John (GM) and a few other family members sprinkled in for good measure — our dedicated employees continue the tradition of “People Helping People.”

Sergio was dispatched right away for a drainage problem in a downstairs bathroom causing water to backup in a tub. It was discovered that root intrusion was in the main line. Fortunately, the cable was able to break up most of the roots. Future preventative measures were discussed that would result in more costly repairs. However, there was no pressure and they offered to contact me at no additional cost in six months to determine if the roots had returned. They were very professional and pleasant. Sergio even kindly offered to caulk the base of the upstairs toilet. The need for a plumber comes with homeownership. Although unexpected, I felt the cost was reasonable. It is a relief when a company charges what needs to be done and doesn’t add unnecessary costs.

Prescott opened the drain that was clogged and prevented us from using our washing machine for two weeks. Prescott is professional, kind, friendly and a great communicator. He made me feel like a valued customer and explained everything to me very clearly. He was on time and very prompt with the repairs. I was so impressed with his work that I wanted to tip him, but he didn't want to accept tips. THANK YOU, Prescott! You're the best! I will be referring Bob Oates Sewer Rooter, LLC and Prescott to my friends.

We had a valve fail on the water line coming into an upstairs toilet. Oliver quickly and professionally made the repair. And he was very respectful of our house and he was great to talk with about plumbing and life. Ha!

While more expensive than other suppliers, Bob Oates provided professional service. Our plumber was excellent at keeping us informed of issues and was very good at explaining how and why things were being done. The only not so good thing was that our plumber was scheduled for another job with our job not completed. This caused us to not have fully functional plumbing over a weekend. We are now three weeks post re-pipe and everything is working perfectly.

Nobody wants an early Sunday morning sump pump failure before church, but that is what recently happened to us when our Zoeller pump finally burned out after 14 years. I called Bob Oates; they've done good work for us in the past. The kind dispatcher connected us with plumber Prescott, who came within a couple hours and diagnosed our problem. Next day, Prescott and Henry took care of obtaining a new pump, installing, and were finished within a couple/few hours. Things flowing smoothly once again.

When plumbing issues come up, you want a company that you can trust. Bob Oates is that company. Our neighbor had used them on a sewer project and were very please so when we had a sewer pip leak, they recommended them to us. I am so glad they did. TJ was our project contact and he communicated well with us and so did Jess who worked on the project. The workmen were all polite, hardworking and knew what they were doing. Even down to Jess matching our new concrete patch to the old that had been removed for the project. Yes, it was a lot of money to repair but it took a lot of workmen to complete the job. We were so happy with the results, we recommended them to another neighbor when they had an issue just weeks later. We will be recommending Bob Oates to anyone who we come in contact that need their services.

Highly recommend! They cleared a tough blockage in my main line and were incredibly thoughtful throughout the process. They walked me through the potential culprits and valued my input as the homeowner, which I really appreciated. Professional, knowledgeable, and effective. 10/10 service. I'd hire them back in a heartbeat, but fingers crossed my pipes behave from here on out!

Bob Oates "himself" sent me an email for a review so here it is! The men who came to our house were nice guys, but one guy seemed to be brand new to plumbing. They were here to fix a sewage pipe that was worn away. They suggested too rough of a toilet scope caused it. (When I called later, they'd ask which owner of our home we were since our address had 2 names attached to it—I guess the people we bought the home from hired them to scope our toilet—oops!). As they were cutting the pipe, both of them were downstairs and I was on the same level as the bathroom. I started smelling smoke so I went to investigate. I saw a lot of smoke coming from a rag stuffed in the hole so I alerted the guys. They told me that was normal, but it seemed like too much to be normal so I kept an eye out. Sure enough our whole upstairs filled with smoke and I saw that the wood around the hole had caught fire. I called down to them that I saw flames and they rushed up the stairs in the fastest time ever and put the flames out. But they kept reigniting again and again. Our home was filled with smoke by then and I was standing at the ready with our fire extinguisher, coughing. What would have happened if I was not home keeping an eye out? How big would the fire have gotten before they realized? Our bedrooms and bathroom were covered in soot, our clothes and linens smelled like smoke—it was a big cleanup for me, they never once offered a cleaning service. After many calls and conversations they finally knocked $1K off the price. And they lost a customer. Oh, and the toilet that they installed as part of the job wasn't sealed properly so we got to clean up leaks for a few days before they finally were able to get someone out to re-seal it.
