I’m really glad to have Greenwood Hardware as a neighborhood store. While staff interactions can sometimes be hit or miss, there is one woman there who is consistently friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable — she’s honestly the reason I keep coming back.
She also takes wonderful care of the plants; they’re always in great shape. I think of her as the store’s plant whisperer.
The prices can be significantly higher than other stores, which limits how often I shop there, but I value having a local hardware store and appreciate the service when it shines.
Recommended by my condo HOA. Thorough, client-centric, service-oriented from first contact through payment processing. Asked and answered questions. Anticipated and upfront about costs. I briefly checked prices with competitors, but quickly dismissed them due to the contrasting first impression which felt transactional. Highly recommended.
Friendly staff in a well-stocked neighborhood hardwood store. It's really nice to have a shop like this so close to home for last-minute items needed to complete home electrical and plumbing challenges or projects.
I've been going to this little hardware store since 2007. It's changed little over the years in terms of its dedication to service, to its customers, and to its community.
Namely, this is one of the places that you go to when you're looking to get a part you can't find elsewhere. They are friendly, engaged, and intelligent. They have answers, even if that answer is "I actually don't know, let me see if I can ask [other employee] to find out." They always tell you if they can't help or if they aren't going to be able to sell you what you need, and give you directions on how to find it elsewhere.
They're a solid member of the Phinney Ridge, Greenlake, North Ballard, and Greenwood community. If I need a specialty part or a bag of organic compost or a new garden tool, I go here first.
The few areas they are not great in selection are:
- lumber selection
- electrical conduit
- PVC/copper pipe
- concrete
But Greenwood Hardware is a small shop, not a Big Box store, and the amount of stuff that's available here is ridiculous for a store its size.
They're reliable, they have seasonal selection, and they're one of the few places that still stands that have employees who understand the strong DIY help ethic, and are willing to help out.
Keys ground here are always accurate and work well.
They won't have a lot of esoteric parts, but their staff are always willing to special order anything you might need from their online store, and it arrives just as fast or faster than purchasing from the Big Online retailers.
Quality work and very responsive to the needs of customers. Very happy with Greenwood Hardware!
My favorite thing about this little but fantastic neighborhood store is that the shopping experience is consistently good. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they usually have the thingy or doodad I'm looking for.
Nice staff. FYI - They no longer dispose of / recycle lead acid batteries.
Awesome customer service, Above and beyond!
They have the largest selection of pruning shears, saws and gardening implements including many high-quality specialty Japanese gardening tools, woodworking tools etc.
As well as some other specialty tools such as window glaziers tools.
FYI: They are no longer part of the True Value Hardware network so cannot accept True Value gift cards, in less purchased specifically at this location.
They do still have their own customer rewards plan, so be sure to sign up for that!
